NBC’s new drama aimed at geeks, The Event premiered Monday night. Before you go any further in this review know for the record I’m a fan of star Jason Ritter. He was great on Parenthood last year, and also very good on the highly underrated and under-watched The Class on CBS a couple of years ago. That being said, I watched The Event, and while it was cool to see Ritter in action (he can totally carry a show), I was left with a very underwhelming feeling about the future of this show.
Blair Underwood as the President is pandering, The red head lady from ER (Laura Innes) is as stiff as her ole walkin’ sticks from ER, and the story was disjointed and a little boring. So, what are my biggest problems with The Event? From the start, the cast is too big and it feels like the took all the bad parts of FlashForward and shoved it into this premiere.
I’m going to give it a chance and check out the second episode, but I’m not sure I see a series coming out of this show. A mini-series, sure. A one shot season, absolutely. But a full fledged multi-season, multi-arching story; no way.
Go ahead and check it out, let me know what you think (agree or disagree)… BTW, The Event is a Hulu only show for me, I’m refuse to take up valuable DVR space.
A quick geek note: It is nice to see Wes Ramsey (Adult Wyatt Halliwell from TV’s Charmed).
